Gas smell in Car, possible causes.
Hello, I have a 1998 Ford Mustang Cobra. When it sits for a few hours it gets a heavy Gas smell inside. You can smell it immediately after you open the door. I've checked for leaks and can't find any. I've removed the Gas Cap after it sits in the heat and it doesn't seem to have any built up pressure. Some of the hoses are cracked under the hood that deals with the Fuel Return, could that be causing it even though the smell seems to be coming from inside?

Chances are its the hose for the EVAP system, it runs to the upper intake manifold. It is a black hose with a rep stripe if u follow it it goes to the solenoid and a sensor then into the canister inside the fenderwell, it is notorious for rotting away on either side of the solenoid check it out.

you need to check the seal for the fill tube where it connects to the tank...happened to my buddy we just filled it as full as we could get it without overflowing and crawled under and looked for wetness...
