Default Honest opinion of 2001 Cobras?

I've got a 2004 GT right now in really good condition but I'm looking for more power and speed for not too much more money. I was also looking at an 05-09GT because I really like that body style and the interior is nicer in my opinion. A couple people have told me to keep saving for a Terminator, but those are normally another 6-8k pricier than the 01 Cobras.
I just want as many honest answers as I can get for these questions about the 2001 Cobra...
Is it a good buy? Would YOU buy one? What do you think of the horsepower for the price? What do you think about the rest of the car for that price? What about the way it reacts to mods and room for improvement compared to my GT, the 05-09GTs, and the Terminators?
Thanks for any info! It'll probably be a couple more months before I make any kind of switch but I am still thinking about everything.

Continue saving and purchase an 03/04. You won't be disappointed.

Is it a good buy? Depends.

Would I buy one? No.

Reaction to mods? Well...it has a more powerful engine than your GT. It can potentially put you in the high 300HP range with a simple supercharger kit. Termi? A pulley and a tune will put you around 400HP probably.

I don't want to talk about the 05+.

go for it. 4v's are nice, plus you will have something that will hold its value.

You need to think about your end result goals. I believe I'd consider a 03/04 Mach 1 over the 01 cobra. You get the 4v engine and the extra styling, interior and exterior.
I like my 04 cobra, you can definately find deals on these in this tough economy too.
As far as the new body style, I'd hold out a little while longer and get a '11 5.0. They have alot more potential as far as power goes.

Save for an 03/04 you'll spend 10K just to get close to the performance of the 03/04

I would love to own a 2001 Cobra but,I already purchased a
2008 Subaru Impreza STI.If I were you I would look around and
trade your 2004 Ford Mustang GT in on a 1999 or 2001 Cobra.
In the end you will get more horsepower for the dollar with a 4V 4.6L than
a 2V 4.6L .With the right centrifugal or twin screw supercharger you will be
making the same or more rear wheel horsepower than the 03-04 Cobra's
and paying less because the 03-04 Cobra's are pretty expensive for a low
mileage one that was not beat on and taken care of.I personally would much
rather have a 1999-2001 Cobra than a 3V 2005-2009 Ford Mustang GT.
Also I really like the body style of the 1999 or 2001 Cobra's.
The best of luck in your search here are some links to check out.

First of all, **** your STi...

Secondly, yeah, you can get the same rear wheel horsepower as an 03 Cobra, BUT not with the same reliability. Cast internals ftl...

I love the '99-01 cobra and '03-04 Mach 1. They are almost the same car, if you want IRS or not. The NA 4v can put down more power after adding a supercharger or turbo than the terminator because of the higher compression. Search about the '01, the mustang magazines have done articles about building both as NA and adding FI.

Thanks guys for all the replies so far. I would like to get a termi and I will definitely stay on the lookout for a cheap one, but I think the 01 is more in my price range right now. Good idea about the Mach I though, I've seen a couple of deals on those.

Pretty sure you want lower compression if you want to force feed an engine. Shut up...you sound stupid.
