where do I refill tranny fluid on 97 cobra?

Do you still have the T45 transmission in there?
The advice below is based on previous experience. However, it has been some time since I've done an oil change on one of these, so the exact plug locations may be different than what I state. Regardless of that, the drain plug and fill plugs will be evident once you're under there.
Regardless, there are two ways. You can remove the drain plug, drain the oil, reinstall and torque the drain plug, then remove the shifter assembly, remove the upper oil fill plug on the drivers side of the trans, fill with oil through the shifter until it starts to pour out of the upper fill plug hole. Done.
Or, and this is the easier way, locate the upper fill plug hole on the drivers side of the trans. Should be at mid-level up the side. The drain plug is on the passenger side, I believe. Drain it, reinstall drain plug, then using a fluid pump you can buy from most auto parts stores, pump the new fluid into the trans via that fill plug hole until it starts coming out of the fill plug hole. Reinstall plug and you're done. The lower plug is a bolt near the cross member and the fill plug is a cap with a 1/2" drive hole it in for your 1/2" drive ratchet. Don't over-torque these plugs!

thanks man. I just checked and the fill plug is under the shifter. and yes I have the original tranny in there. I'm gonna do this tomorrow. and do an oil change. do you know about how many quarts I will need? and what's the best oil to get?

I like to fill it through the shifter myself.
I find it easier than trying to pump the fluid through fill hole.
BTW I like to use Mobile 1 synth tranny fluid my T45's shift so smooth after switch over to this tranny fluid.
