How can you tell if the cobras engine is authentic???

How can you tell if the cobras engine is authentic???

Im looking into buying this 98 and according to the VIN it was factory built as a cobra. The guy selling says the engine had to be replaced by ford about a year ago after a piston rod or something messed up. I wanted to know what i could to do check if the new engine was actually a 98 cobras engine that would dish out the same performance or if its some crappy enignie they just tossed in, any help appreciated.

i have an 01 cobra i had to replace my engine and usually u can tell by the badge that is on the engine but my new one didnt have one but it is still as good as the one i had because i dynoed it when i got it back and it ran about the same actually it ran more so i was happy. I am pretty sure all cobra engines are hand built no matter what but iam not sure.

check for a DOHC somewhere on it

on the passanger side valve cover there should be a badge that should be signed by two people. they are the people that built the engine. the engine in that car should looke exactly like this one http://www.scottshotrods.com/shopIma...obra-in392.jpg
