Default 2001 Cobra

What is the best rear gear for a DD on street tires, I just want to change the 3.27 which seems slow of the line. I do not want to shred the tires but a little faster off the line performance would be nice, what should the total cost be for this install? This car will never see the track and is driven on highway 3 times a week. No other mods will be done besides a short throw shifter ( help here would be nice too) and K/N drop in air filter. Thanks everyone just picked the car yesterday.....

I like my MGW on my 99 GT. I think most shifters will do the job just fine though.

I'm not sure what gears installed would cost at a shop (guessing 600 bucks) but there are some steeper ratios like 3.55, 3.73, 3.90 (these are not common), and 4.10s and above. You might like a 3.73 or 3.90.

I would get used to the car first and then decide if i wanted to mod anything.

Thanks I have had an 86 and 89 5.0 and they both had the 3.73 installed which I liked but just don't no about the 4.6 motor I know I want to go a little faster of the line I can tell you that. I am not a racer but like to keep up with the newer mustangs.

4.10's. Some say 4.30's if you're staying NA, but I think that's too much. I've always had Steeda Tri-Ax shifters, but MGW makes a great shifter, too.

A 3:73 with the overdrive you will be fine.

Burn more gas but should give you a lift off the line.
