1995 Cobra Upgrades and stats help
Alright, i believe ive finally settled down to getting a 1995 Cobra because i like the body style and the 5.0L does it come in any other year excluding the fox bodies? And lets say i get a 95 cobra, NOT a "R" series. What are some basic mods and is there a place to find the statistics like 0-60 and all that good stuff. Also anyone know how much a decentley low mileage 95 cobra would run for? Thanks for all your help

Ahh, you should get a 4.6... . The best bet for getting realistic pricing for any car really is Kelly Blue Book. The link is posted below. As far as mods go, you should start with the basics. Listed in some type of order, they are... Gears (best bang for the buck), K&N air filter, cat back exhaust (helps a little in the breathing of the engine and makes the car sound like a mustang), underdrive pullies, and (probably should do this first considering the year) give the car a full tune up with an upgraded ignition system. You could upgrade the car for years and many dollars after that, but it all depends on what you want out of it and what you have to spend. Before you do all of this, look into the 4.6... Aluminum block, easily handles more power with good reliability, better looking engine , better gas milage (not by a lot, but better), handles more revs., more horsepower in stock form, and I could probably go on. Anyways, good luck with it!

Alright, whats the best bet to get a 4.6L Cobra that has a good price. I was thinking 96 earlier but i was looking forward to the 5L. Why would i NOT want a 5.0L? Lets say its not a 5.0L, what year should i get?

What are you wanting to do mods wise? If your looking at JUST bolt on's then you would get much better results out of hte 4.6. The HP on the 4.6 is MUCH higher then the 5.0 cobra's stock. 96-98 are all just about identical. 94-95 were the 5.0's. 94-98 were the samy body style, just different tail lights. The 5.0 is a little cheaper to mod, 4.6 gives you a better starting point.
Time wise they were rated at just about the same 0-60 and right around 14 flat in the 1/4.

The only thing I don't like about the 98 they made a slight change to the intake, but it was the quickest out of the 96-98. You don't want the 5.0. My buddy had a 95 Cobra and he put some 3.73 gears in it and it still wouldn't break out of the 14's. We ran it all day and maybe had one or two runs really close to breaking into the 13's.

I was really just messing around when I was saying that you need to get the 4.6. I do own two 97 cobras, so I am really partial to them (I did own a 94 GT though). Oh, and my brother has a 97 cobra as well. It really must be in the blood. So, anyways, both cars (5.0 and 4.6) are a good base for making horsepower. Though, I think that the 5.0 cobra is easily outdone by the GT if the GT has a couple of mods. For that matter, the 93 and before LX 5.0 was an even better base for modding (when all out cost is considered). But, the 4.6 liter cobra engine is a more reliable base to start off with. I think that that is what HaV was getting at. One thing that has caught my fancy as of late is the Kenne Bell supercharger for mustangs. With that mod on a stock 4.6 cobra engine (the work can be done yourself if you are somewhat mechanically inclined) you can put out 440 horses. That makes for an all around better vehicle then the 03 or 04 in my opinion. I am going to paste their website here as there is a ton of excellent information about mustangs, making horsepower, and power adders in general. You should think your car purchase through and then find a good deal. If you do your homework, make decisions, and follow through, you should have an awsome ride that compairs to any exotic out there. Ask yourself these questions... Do I want to build an all out drag car? Do I want an all out road racing machine? Do I want to make a fun daily driver? Do I want to have a daily driver that will blow the doors off of most anything on the street and handle well? Or, do I want a sports car that has all of the luxuries that you could want with a comfortable ride? I think this covers all of the questions that one needs to ask when getting into another stang. When it comes to the answers, you should research and ask for some stories about what others have experienced. You really need to come to the conclusion yourself for your own happiness sake. That is why this forum is here and that is why the mustang is so great...
