The Ecoboost 3.5 is just a Duratec with a turbo. It is the same engine in the SHO and Ecoboost F-150. In theory making an Ecoboost 3.7 would be pretty easy. Or if a V6 with a snail on it WAS in the Mustang's future, the 3.5 Ecoboost could just be fitted in.

I doubt it though.

The base Mustang will still have a 3.7 V6. The 2.3 I4 Ecoboost is going to be a mid-range model. I wouldn't be too shocked to see an SVT badge, but I won't hold my breath. The 5.0 will still be soldiering on as well I am certain.

What I am curious about is what the new top of the line will be. I have read that new pedestrian safety standards require a lower hood, ruling out a roots style supercharger. As mentioned already, Ford is going heavily toward the turbos, which is something they played with thirty years ago. I wouldn't be too surprised to see an Ecoboost (or some fancier name to instill the idea of power) Coyote 5.0 in the engine bay of the top of the line Shelby.

I am still curious where the OP got the 4.6 and 3.8 Ecoboost from.

A 4-banger turbo would likely get an SVO badge, based on history.

Please feel free to correct me... I'm fairly certain I've read about a possible 3.8 Ecoboost, but I am very capable of being wrong, as my wife will tell you. No, it's not a 4.6. It's still a 5.0 with a possible 5.8 in the Shelby.

Edit: Here we go... 3.7, not 3.8

You also need to remember, this Mustang is going Global! That's why the turbo 4-banger is in the lineup. Europeans are paying 9+ dollars per gallon for gasoline, so they wouldn't be real keen on purchasing a V8 powered Mustang. It has been determined that the engine bay will be too cramped to fit either the 5.4 or 5.8 supercharged mod motors currently residing in the Shelby GT500. The TVS and Eaton/Whipple style blowers will never clear the hood! I'm expecting the factory Shelby GT350 to have a high revving N/A version of the 5.0, along the lines of an improved, more powerful Boss 302, pushing 8k rpms, and 500hp. As for a new Mach 1, who knows, but I bet it's going to be more along the lines of a 1971-73 style, no shaker scoop, NACA ducts in the hood, and a slamming fastback! That all being said, I'm holding on to my 2011 Shelby GT500 until I die! LOL!

The 2.3L Ecoboost is geared more toward the European markets. The base will still be a v6. The 5.0L is likely to be getting direct injection.

My guess exactly. V6 and V8 options in the US, Ecoboost 4 and V6 or V8 optional in Europe.
