What on earth does a 60' or 1/4 mile have to do with this discussion? There is a reason that corporations, with literally billions of dollars on the line, have the rim width recommendations. Do you even know what those reasons might be? Do you think they just have nothing else to do but punch numbers into a spreadsheet or do you think maybe, just maybe, their squads of mechanical and material engineers might know wtf they're doing?

LOL Do you think if you keep typing your going to change my mind? Let it gooooooo. The reason I brought up sixty and 1/4 mile is because thats what I use the 285/8 inch tire And wheel combination for with great success! Mount what ever size tire you want on your car. I'm not trying to stop you or dictate what you use. I'm content with my 285s on the 8 inch wheel set up! If you want to run out and buy me some 10 inch wide wheels I'll be happy to use them! End of discussion.

I don't care if you change your mind, this thread isn't about you. It would be nice, however, to have a thread with solid advice based on the advanced engineering that goes into the tires instead of "some people did it, must be fine."
You act as though teams upon teams of engineers haven't confirmed any side effects of mounting a fat tire on a smaller rim through countless hours of testing.

In addition to the physics of it all, I just assumed it was always a safety issue as well.
