Need New Rear Tires - 2015 GT Performance Pack
It's time for some new rear tires on my 2015 GT with performance pack (Stock - 275/40-19). I haven't been real happy with the dry traction on the stock tires. I don't have the budget for new wheels, so what are the widest tires I can fit on the stock rim (9.5X19 I believe). Also, which tire do you like for dry traction? Thanks!

Insteresting. I loved the Summer Pirelli tire. The All Season is no where near as good.
What's your application? My car sees a road course about twice a month and occasionally gets to visit could twisty roads. What I like about the Summer tires is they have a predictable break away that stays controllable throughout the slide. The all seasons tend to be more abrupt and the side wall flex is unsettling in long sweepers or rough roads. The Summer tires feel planted all the time and make you feel somewhat invincible.
Kumho Ecsta were good in the past but I've not had them on a Mustang
Honestly you're going to have to try stuff out and figure out what you like. Just look at the ratings to gauge what you're getting. The longer the tire life the worse it will perform for hooligan driving.

I just got a set of the new Nitto NT555 G2's on my car on Friday. I've only put about 100 miles on them and have only been able to play around a little bit but so far I can tell they have much better grip than the stock PP Pirellis. This includes my drive to work this morning when it was 35 degrees. I went with the stock PP sizes, for what it's worth.

you can fit a 305 on it, nitto makes a 555 for it. but heed what Chromeshadow is saying. if you want a good daily driving tire, the nittos might be too noisy, even tho they are great for traction. Michelin pilots are some of the best overall tires out there.

rear tires 20x10 PP rims in rear
I took my 275/40/19 rear tires, and put them in front with a 1" spacer, then I ordered from american muscle the 20x10's PP rear rims with 305/35/20 M/T tire.
You will be amazed in how the car corners!!!

Take a look at the Cooper Zeon RS-S and RS-A. Stock on Roush Mustangs, actually developed with input from Roush. Half the price of Pilots Sports. I love mine, putting them on again when I move up to a staggered wheel set.

Your right. You can go 10 millimeters above a 275 on a 9.5 inch rim. I know they are a bit pricey, but the Michelin Pilot Super Sport is an excellent summer tire, unlike the stock P Zero's that have a 220 treadwear rating, the Michelins have a 300 tread wear rating, though I cannot attest if that additional 80 rating is legit since I just bough a set for my Corvette. When the Pirellis are heated up the dry traction is good, but in the wet they don't hold a candle to the Michelins. The Michelins are a bit more forgiving when driving in 40 degree weather unlike the Pirellis that are borderline dangerous stone blocks. I've heard good reviews on the Conti Extreme Contact DW's.
