Eco Boost Mustang
I have owned nothing but Mustang GTs for many years, all with manual shift trannys.
I just returned from 2 weeks on vacation in beautiful Hawaii. While there, I had a rental car, a 2016 Mustang convertible, equipped with a 4 cyl Eco Boost and 6 speed auto tranny with Sport position. I have been shown the light. This car with 310 HP (10 more than my 4.6L) was a blast to drive and still gave me about 24 mpg average on reg. gas. This little car was very quick. I don't know if my '06 GT with a 5 speed could beat it, but if so, it would be damn close. As far as handling, with the IRS and lighter engine up front, this car was really sure footed. If I can ever see my way clear to buy another 'Stang, I think it will be an Eco Boost. I also loved all the electronics bells & whistles it had. It will never sound like a V8, but I could learn to live with that. Aloha!

The turbo 4, in my opinion, is a cool option, but not as efficient as the outgoing 3.5L. Having drivin both, and now owning a 2016 5.0, a lot of the improvements felt are in the over all design improvements of the car, not so much the engine. If Ford produced an upgraded 3.5L engine that they had in the last incarnation, then power out put would be on par to possibly better than the current turbo 4. Granted, the turbo 4 does offer a little more bang for the buck in the aftermarket area, but in other ways is a cut from the old 3.5L base option seen in the 2014 and earlier models. I would love to get my wife a 2016 as well, but the turbo 4 looses MPG over the 3.5 (which is what we use her car for), however the base 3.5L model is too stripped down for her liking. This brings us to a 35,000 car, to get what she wants, but in doing so means paying for an engine that neither of us want. I would love to see Ford increase the power of the turbo 4 to sit more in between the 3.5L and the 5.0, yet give it some exclusive performance options. While allowing people the option to build a deluxe/premium 3.5L, that's on par with the outgoing model, to suit people such as my wife and I that would like the newer look and technology for a daily driver, that's not as concerned about the performance of the turbo 4 and 5.0.

that's what I thought until I did the same thing as the OP.
I rented a EB for an AZ trip. The best day of travel I pulled an avg 31 mpg.
Saying I was pleasantly shocked and surprised by the performance of this car is a vast understatement. Even sounded sweet when winding out.
Lets put it this way, the car performance exceeds my driving abilities... and local state and municipal laws.
