Default Drive Modes - Auto vs Manual

I've had a chance to drive both an Automatic and a Stick premium 5.0 now and played around with a few of the driving modes. I have some pretty big woes about them and Im hoping this crew can clear up.

When i drove the stick i swapped between a few of the modes at cruise but did not really get to try them through the gears. However, when I drove the auto I flipped on sport mode coming back into the dealership and as the car decelerated you could feel it jumping and slamming gears hard like it was a bad tune. This was huge turn off to me and made me wonder about the intent of these modes across the platform.

Now, my main question for these modes is how does it perform with a manual transmission as you're cruising along?

Looking for some good information here

The sport+ mode just increases throttle response on the manual. The Race mode I believe does the same + puts traction control into sport mode?

The auto is supposed to rev-match down shifts when in manual mode, were you in this mode?
