How to Install a Ford Performance Hood Lift Strut Kit on Your S550 Mustang

The S550 version of the Ford Mustang GT is a helluva machine. However, the old-fashioned prop rod used to hold up its muscular hood is neither sleek nor fast.

I got it on eBay for $70. It's the same one that other companies sell for $100

Sadly, it is not getting very good reviews compared to its more expensive and beefier competitors. The upper bracket apparently doesn't provide very much support on the hood.

About the upper bracket apparently not providing very much support, I'm amazed Ford didn't put an aluminum hood on the GT & GT Premiums. Man, that thing is really heavy.

i just ordered the steeda kit from lethal last night, the priciest one on the market at $134.95 but i dont want to skimp on quality for a few bucks.

i may have also picked some exhaust and intake/tuner while i was at it.

So who makes the best kit? Steeda, or are they just merchandising the kit? I'm not sure why they are necessary! I might get one because I leave my hood open at Cruise Nights for people who want to talk superchargers & sometimes I worry if it gets windy!
