Need ideas for speaker upgrade 2015 Convertible Mustang GT
Hello all
I just bought a 2015 Convertible Mustang GT and would like to upgrade the speakers. I have the 9 speaker system (no subwoofer or rear speakers compared to the 12 speaker system).
I would like a system with good clean sound and can handle reasonable volume but don't really want a sub that makes my trunk vibrate.
I've been searching for specific advice for 20+ hours and haven't found anything specific to convertibles (all the prefab subs are designed for the coupe).
Do any of you have advice for a speaker, sub, amp upgrade (I want to keep the head unit) for $1000-2000?
Thank you in advance!

I would go with Kenwood or Infinity brand speakers of the proper size and channels to replace each stock speaker. In regards to subs, they make boxes specifically for convertibles which fire upwards, I don't know if there are any for the S550 Mustangs, however. A strong sub will make the trunk rattle, there's no way around that - you can buy taping and foam that lines the creases of the trunk to reduce/eliminate rattle. This is all coming from the experience of re-doing the speakers of my 2001 GT Convertible about 10-12 years back.

Thanks Spork!
I have not found any sub boxes for the convertible S550 yet but will keep looking. Maybe I don't need a sub? Has anyone just upgraded the 8 speakers (I probably won't upgrade the center speaker) and the amp and ended up with decent sound?

You could always see how it sounds without the subs, then get some if you need more bass. Don't forget that adding subs to a convertible tends to make the trunk semi-useless.
