Default CD and MP3 question

Just got a lightly used 2015 GT and am not to tech savvy. I have gotten the system to play music from the MP3 but cannot find a way to have the system show the artist playing or the song. Even on a cd it shows unknown artist. What am I missing? Thanks.

cd's need to have it encoded when the cd/mp3 is made.
Theres an RDS setting in your menus, thats for the radio to display artists, etc.

cd's you make yourself will not have info, unless you add it before burning the cd
same with mp3s
it depends on the cd.
lots of commercial bought cd's may or may not display info.

Commercial, I have not found anything in owners manual to really address this specifically. Thumb drive just has music in folders with the name of the artist on the folder. There were a lot of steps to go thru on my 2011 Expedition but I was able to get the information to show there. I realize this is a lot different technology.

I have to go to Browse and open other files, then the artist shows in a list that you can pick. Change artist, go back to browse. But shows everything as unknown when playing. No big deal really. Just thought I might be missing something.

The mp3 tracks need ID3 tags. If you right click the file on a PC you can edit it.

I found the spot to do just that. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
