Oil leak, now oil drip, even when sitting, see pics
 

Hey, I just bought a new 2017 Mustang V6 base. Was burning oil then leaked a bunch, dealer found the leak, as they state, "...coming from oil filter housing..." "...replace oil filter and housing..." great. Stated they cleaned up too. Keep in mind I'm barely driving it, and using my winter beater car instead. No more burning oil!

I noticed some oil coming to a hanging drop on this cross piece (seriously can't find exactly what it's called and I'm no good with cars) even when the car sits for a couple days. I took it in and they said the models are known to hold residual somewhere in there, and they'll check/clean it.

They said nothing is leaking and is just residual, and cleaned it "real good" I took it home and it's been sitting for 4 days or so and still has the slow leak. See below for where and then another picture to show the entire underside for a better idea.

Any ideas?

They could’ve done a aloppy job at cleaning the belly pan.

Maybe... but this is exactly where it leaked from first (and on the driver side) and second time when they gave it a "super clean" or whatever they are trying to sell me on. I'm not entirely sure what to even do myself. I'll have to call the dealer yet again. I just wiped off that oil and here it is below. It is oil still, would anyone disagree?

I can't imagine tilting you car on its side was good for it. Surprised you don't have a bunch of leaks now. The oil filter on the V6 may be in a place where the oil drained out onto and into the frame and just wiping the outside of it is not really cleaning it. The residual oil keeps seeping out of the frame cavity it got into in the first place. I had this problem on my F150 every time they changed the oil despite telling them to be more careful. They always "cleaned" it before I left and when I got home oil leak overnight. Went away after a couple of days. If yours continues to leak, it is highly possible that your filter is not seated properly to the point of being loose or heaven forbid, the old gasket didn't come off with the old filter. Two gaskets leak like a sieve, don't ask me how I know, it's embarrassing.

I had a thought of it being caught in the frame cavity - I think ~5 years ago my Mom had an experience like that on her 2010.

Well I originally had a bad oil leak, so maybe there's residual, like you said. Again, the dealer checked it a second time and said they cleaned it and used an entire bottle of degreaser or something. Hmmm..

So with these drops coming slowly, you still think it's possible the filter isn't properly seated or gasket related? Haha.

Maybe I'll call the dealer soon and ask if they checked the filter and gaskets (I would hope).

They can use all the degreaser in the world and it won't solve the problem if they can't get it inside the frame cavity. I can't tell from the picture and I'm assuming the filter is on that side of the engine for my theory to work. That part of the frame is boxed and if a significant amount of oil poured onto the top of it and leaked into a seam or hole, the frame will have a lot of residual oil inside leaking out. Surely other owners have noticed this after an oil change. You clearly have an engine oil leak from the looks of your paper towel and it clearly happened after your oil change. After reading your post again, they replaced the filter housing as well which clearly indicates something is amiss here. They may have omitted the O-ring gasket on the housing to the block. No telling, but if it keeps leaking make them do it again. The residual oil should stop after a few days.

Yeah thanks for the feedback proeagles. I actually found the solution. Ditch that dealer/V6 and buy a 2018 Premium Mustang, V8, :) I just got it today!

Congratulations, wise choice. Nothing beats a V8.
