Default X or h-pipe?

I have to ask a question about the factory resonater? I've been reading comments on YouTube with guys who either put on a x or h-pipe with the stock mufflers that it affects the back pressure. Just curious for the one who have done this mod yet with the stock mufflers if it is true? Thanks!

Don't know if it reduces back pressure. The factory resonator is straight through with perforations in it. It acts as a sound filter of sorts, so I cannot really tell you if it relieves back pressure. I guess it will to some degree, how much I am not sure. I took mine off and put a Steeda H pipe and it made a noticeable difference in sound, not a lot but a difference. I went ahead and bit the bullet and bought a Steeda axle back to go with it. I did not really like the sound of the H pipe only. Sound is subjective though.

mapitts... How do you like the sound with the H-pipe and the Steeda axle backs. I have that same combo and it was just delivered. Will be putting them on soon.. I'm going for the deeper tone with the H-pipe rather than a more raspy tone.

Mapitts thank you for your info. I was also thinking of just doing a muffler delete with the resonator still on as well. I've seen videos of people doing this for the time being before getting a different exhaust upgrade. I have to say with the stock resonator and no mufflers really sounds nice. I'll see which way I go first just to get a better sound it's just too damn quiet stock.

If you have watched the Steeda videos on YouTube it is louder rolling through the gears than what sound is heard on the video. A deeper system as well. No drone unless you lug it. My wife actually likes it and I have gotten a couple of comments on the sound. It gives it the sound it should have IMHO.

mapitts.. I actually bought the combo based on the Steeda videos as I liked the sound. As you know always sounds a little different than the videos when you hear it in person. Glad you like the sound and I am looking forward to installing mine soon. Thanks again for the reply.

I did the Ford resonator delete kit which is a X-pipe and kept factory mufflers. It was perfect for me, not too loud, just right. If you like "loud", it will require changing the mufflers. Like mapitts said an X-pipe will give you a race sound and H-pipe is a deep tone like an old muscle car most of the time. I prefer the X-pipe sound without popping though.
