Default Looking to trade the Stang

So i've been looking around... and today I went to look at a 2000 Trans Am (40,000 miles, 6spd) and a 1999 Camaro SS (50,000miles 6spd) I want a V8 thats not as loud or conspicuous when im in my college, which is actual in a "Village" (as the sign reads) and the Village Police station is actually located on campus (Right behind one of the male dorms....) Well i drove the SS today and it felt...slow.. it shifted really smoothly..but felt So Slow... What do you guys (from experience at the strips/friends/etc) think it would take to get it similar to the stang, meaning like low 12s...? I mean I cant imagine much..its only a 40~hp difference... Thanks!

Suggest you post your question in a "bowtie" forum.

Why don't you just put a quieter exhaust on?

This HAS to be cheaper than trading in your car and getting another one.

Plus, there's the added bonus of, you know, keeping your 'stang.

Exactly...I don't see how a sex change...er, I mean buying a Chevy would be cheaper and make more sense than just getting quieter exhaust? What did you expect when you bought long tube headers?

My advice is to stay away from the F-bodies. Just buy a used C5 Corvette instead. A 1999 or 2000 C5 should be relatively inexpensive. The first mod on a C5 is to remove the runflats and replace them with any performance tire, you'll drop about 18 lbs of unsprung weight...pretty impressive gain.

If you're shopping C5's, then keep in mind that the '01, 6 speed models will have oil consumption issues on occasion, make sure the harmonic balancer isn't wobbling (that applies to ANY LS-1), and check the rear end for leaks. They added a few ponies in '01, so try to get a '01 - '04 if you can.

My vote would be an M3, if you are dead set on trading. You can pick up an M3 for around $18-20K, 2000-2002. Much nicer and a quality built vehicle.

I think that would be the dumbest mistake, trading in for a GM.. One, they are slower then yours, two- well i shouldn't even have to say this, but it is a GM! Why don't you just change to a quieter exhaust!? Put stock mufflers on, cut the tips off and weld nice looking ones on.. That will quiet it a bit, put some resonators and catts? That should do it enough.

If you are def selling the stang, i would say older BMW M3 too.. Steer clear from GM.
