Why do you say that? 4.10s have always helped my top end. They help every gear pull harder, and make 5th gear an actual pulling gear. My trap speeds have always increased with the addition of 4.10s.

3.73s are a good gear too, just wondering what gave you the impression that steeper gears hurt top end.

Your OD gear is a puller? I'd have figured the OD gears were useless for racing....at least, in GM world. 4th gear is where the money stops, then it's just fuel saving mode.

It's no different with the Mustang. 5th gear sucks for racing regardless of the rear end gear.

With 4.10s, 5th pulls decent. It ain't no Z06 or anything, lol. I run out of gear in my GT at 125 or so in 4th with 4.10s, 5th will bury the needle past 145. The Mach is the same way, only with 3.55s, 4th winds out at 140 mph, then 5th is completely useless. I did 4.10s in my first Mach and in that one, the 4.10s pegged the speedo past 155 in 5th. Without stock gearing, 5th more or less holds the speed.

I would've thought that 5th would pull some in the GM, and that 6th would be the real drop off. My GTO pulled pretty good in 5th, but 6th.. not so much. It had 3.4x gears, if that matters.

Yeah, same thing here with my 98 Z28. 5th pulled real nice even with the stock 3.42's. At least a lot better than my 04 gt with 3.90's.

Gotta love that extra displacement.... then again, looks like you got displacement on demand, only its in a bottle.

Yeah, it pulls like a mother in 5th with the juice, but i try to resist that urge lol.

IMO, the Mustang has always been in desperate of a 6 speed, especially because of the lack of displacement.

Of course now it will be standard on the 2011 gt lol.

This is true. A T-56 with 4.10s would've helped the GT a lot. Like you said though, the 2011s are supposed to have an extra gear, which means better ratios throughout, so that along with the alleged 400 plus BHP should be a nasty combo. Damn, at that point I'm going to be forced to do some sort of DOD myself if I plan on keeping up, lol!

What I am getting at is that they should be pretty neck and neck with gears/DRs, but with the STI boosted, they will pull up top eventually.

Roll racing.. it's a different story though. Should be closer, especially with a manual.
