Just seen this and thought I'd share. Dodge is answering the call with a new 6.4 liter engine for the chally/charger SRT-8. Wonder what chevy has up their sleve.

hmmm even with the added hp i'm guessing the bigger engine will add even more weight. i wonder if the new motor will finally give dodge a 12 second car lol. i believe the srt8's all were said to run low 13's?

I've seen more than my fair share of stock LX platform SRT8's run high 12's right from the factory... a good percentage may run low 13's but breaking 12's wasn't really a one run wonder like the LS1 camaro either.... I'm sure it happens quite frequently

If the SRT8 is going to have 480hp, what's in store for the R/T?

As for the R/T models, they will retain the same engine and output levels, while the base SE will see significant improvements thanks to the use of a new Pentastar V6 engine, which just launched in the new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. That new powerplant will bump output by 40-hp and 20 ft-lbs for a total of 290-hp and 270 ft-lbs of torque. Fuel economy should also get a boost, up from 18/25-mpg (city/highway) to 20/26-mpg.
At least the R/T won't be in the same league as the SRT8. Nice to see a new V6 for Dodge, too.

it says in the article that they will retain the same power output... which if I remember right is a measily 390BHP connected to a 3.90 final drive ratio xD

if I had to buy an LX car I think I would prefer the R/T over the SRT and supercharge it with the extra rubles

Yeah I ninja edited my post

In the 2010 trims, the R/T was only a few ticks behind the much more expensive SRT8...that was ridiculous.

The SRT finally gets the bump in power it should've had all along over the R/T.

+1 The Challengers and Chargers are boats. I can't imagine the mileage they get, especially with the new 6.4L

I'm on board with the weight loss idea. All of those cars already make a ton of power, its the weight thats been killing them. Even the R/T would've been a low 13 second car if it didn't clear 4k pounds. Hopefully, GM will address this problem one of these days. It won't be anytime soon considering they just released the new body. My guess is that GM will find a way to increase power asap.
