Default Gearing and trap speeds

Alright thanks i found a good deal on a set of 4.30's and i am trying to decide wether or not to go with them. I dont want my gas mileage to drop a lot, and i am planning on a KB build when i get out of college so i dont know if i want to go with this high of a gear now.

How far away is being done with college? If it is a few years, swap the gears out and keep your old ones on standby for the blower. Having stock gears with an auto is torture with cams and no stall converter.

Dude with 4.30s you will not make it down the quarter with spray or a kb. 4.10 is the highest I would go, 3.73s being a much better choice

Having stock gears with an auto is torture lol

People don't realize that autos needs gears AND a converter to get the most out of their car. Gears and a stall can easily take 1 second off a stock auto. Buddy ran 10.0 in the 1/8 mile when his car was stock. Had 4.10s put in and ran 9.4 (plus a catback exhaust).

4.30s would be sweet for an auto. I haven't figured out when you would run out of gear with 4.30s and an auto. Anyone know?

You will be on the limiter before the traps, without a doubt. Def not a good idea

Spoken like a man without an auto. He should just keep the stock gears on hand for down the road if he wants to swap them back out. 3.73s in an auto are next to worthless. Especially since he doesn't have a high stall converter

Very true, people just don't get how much gears and a stall really makes for these cars. This guy won't run out of gear with 4.30s til about 115mph. He already has cams that will spin up to about 6500. So, I would do 4.30s for sure. I am currently looking for a set of 4.56s at a good price.

For an auto, you really are just better off saving your money if you aren't going to run at the very least 4.10s. Unless you go 4.10s+ it is almost a complete waste until you et into big power

With his cams he is probably shifting at 6200-6300. According to rpm calculators as long as he was trapping under 110-112 he would be fine with 26" tires.

No where in this thread did he mention running nitrous. Only mentioned a KB after college. If he isn't going to get a KB for a couple more years I would definitely do 4.10 or 4.30 gears, if he is staying N/A.

He's been talking about nitrous for awhile. My car is an auto, so I know how autos are. 3.73s with spray are perfect, hell be pulling through the traps around 5500.

4.10 is going to be too high for him on nitrous or kb.
