Default 07 4.0 vs 07 4.0...

There's a kid that just graduated with my brother and recently got a manual 07 4.0. It has a big hood that's got a non-functional hoodscoop lol. Apparently a month or so ago him and my brother were talking in class and he was saying he would destroy my car because his is a manual (I lol'd at that especially since he just bought it not long before that). So my bro asked him what his mods were and apparently he's got the following: CAI, Throttle body, and Pypes dual exhaust. His car is NOT tuned.
Now my car has the CAI and I run a 91 octane bamatune. I'm thinking my CAI/tune makes a lot more difference than his throttle body and CAI.
Just curious on your thoughts?

From a dig I'd say it comes down to who can launch it better as that can be tricky with the 4.0L's as they don't have a T-LoK rear differential. Being an auto, that should be easier for you. From a roll I'd say its a toss up. Your motor may make a little more power but manual transmissions tend to put a greater % of power to the ground and I believe the manual 4.0's have better gearing than the autos.

Drivers race, especially from a dig. Tune will help you, manual will help him if he can drive. If he's new to a manual it could be ugly for him.

If he is not tuned, you should have the advantage. When I took my 4.0 to the track for the first time I ran against a friend with an auto 4.0, mine was stick. I ran a 15.204 @ 93.98 mph and my only mod at the time was dual exhaust. My friend ran a 14.6 @ 95 his mods are dual exhaust, JLT CAI, and SCT tuner with 93 race tune. walked me like a gt. I never got a chance to run him again when we had the same mods.

Aftermarket fiberglass is alot heavier than then the stock aluminum so that would offset some of the weight savings the manual has over the auto.

Can he launch it well and shift it faster than a tuned auto? Probably not.

No supporting tune means these are effectivly cosmetic mods.

I'm thinking my CAI/tune makes a lot more difference than his throttle body and CAI.
ding, ding, ding...we have a winner!
My money is on you.

I think it will be very close. I feel, stock, the manual is a fair bit quicker. I always thought the stock-auto was a bit of a dog, while the manual felt pretty quick. Maybe a slight edge to you. Good luck

Ive never driven a manual 4.0 so I can't compare but all I know is that once I got the tune my car felt like a new vehicle. Plus how it shifts so much quicker than what it used to
