Soldier GT

Got a big surprise this morning. A buddy from down the street bought a very nice 2001 Mustang GT. He's not talking smack (yet) but it's coming. The car has the following mods: Turbonetics 62mm Turbo, stock gears, Magnaflow cat back exhuast, 75 MM TB and Plenum, Steeda STS and it is intercooled. This is one race if it happens I will most def put it on camera. With the mods in my sig do I stand a chance?

I'm sure you've got a chance. I'm sure with your new fuel pump you're right around 400+. I'm assuming the other car is around that as well since it's a stock shortblock(or so it seems). so with 2 similar hp cars, you've got the gearing advantage and more suspension work. if you've got decent tires race him from a dig. if not do a lower roll.

Thxs ct. BTW car looks awesome. What's the sweet spot for turbo's? I know that a vortech, procharger etc dosen't build instant boost but at what RPM's do the turbo start to pull?

i believe most kits are anywhere from 3-4000 rpm's they're at full boost.

What kind of numbers does he throw down, or how much boost? Sounds like it could be a really interesting race.

I think its all going to come down to how well he is tuned, where he starts as opposed to his spool, traction, etc. I'm looking forward to seeing this one play out. You definitely have a good chance, Soldier.

If I were you, since he is new to driving I would do a 35mph roll for 2 reasons. 1) at 4.10 gears that is going to be around 3800rpms for you putting you right at peak torque, but with his stock gears its going to be around 3200RPMS for him. 2) Unless he knows about break boosting, it is going to take his car a second to build boost while you will be instantly in boost from the moment your foot hits the gas pedal. So even if he has more rwhp (which I'm not sure he will unless the motor is built) It should give you enough of a head start to keep him from coming around on you.
