Default how would i do

finally have mods in my car. '06 gt 5 spd with steeda cai and a sct tune, running 93 octane from brenspeed. buddies little brother got a 2003 bmw m3 smg, he told me he wanted to run me. how would i do against him? we'll probably do roll races, i haven't gotten used to launching my car with the tune/cai because the wheels spin all the way through first. gotta work on that. we're gonna do a 40 roll, 60 roll and probably a 20-25 roll. any input is appreciated. thanks

Assuming he has nothing after market, down low you have a good bit more torque than him, horsepower is fairly even as is weight, if you guys aren't doing speeds over 120 you should take him with the torque advantage.

My guess is you are 335hp/330-340ish torque

He is 333hp/265 torque

thanks gt/cs, im glad to hear that i can take him now up until speeds increase over 120. we won't be doing anything that fast, most likely it'll be 40-80 or so. does the same go for an e39 m5 do you think?

Torque doesn't have as much to do with it as it's made out to. Gearing, power under the curve, and weight play a much bigger factor. My Granpa's tractor makes enough torque to pull over 300,000 lbs, but that doesn't mean its fast.

At any rate, you'll handle that year M3 just fine, dig, roll, shouldn't matter.

alright sweet, thats what i wanted to hear haha. i wasn't sure how i would do because i've seen vids of people with supposedly stock m3's racing tuned s197 gt's and they beat them. i didn't think the m3 would win, judging by how fast my car seems now. that m3 revs high but i haven't been in one like it to see how fast it'll go.

Not that i'm an expert but I've always been told, horsepower sells cars, torque wins races.

A 1996 NPI Gt makes 215 horsepower and 290 ft-lbs. A 370z makes 332hp and 270 ft-lbs.

Who's gonna win? A npi gt would be lucky to get into the high 14's. The 370z is a solid mid 13's car.

Or compare a v8 M3 to the same 1996 gt. The M3 makes 414 horsepower and 290 ft-lbs. So, same torque but the M3 makes 200 hp more.

M3 can fly through the quarter a full 2 seconds faster than the 96 gt even though they have equal torque.

Or the same M3 vs a 99 gt. Gt has 302 ft-lbs. More torque. Would still get raped by the M3.

There's a multitude of factors that go into winning a race. Torque plays a role, but you can't just say "MORE TORQUE = WIN" as seen by the scenarios above

If you have traction, low end torque will help you off the line. After that, its two parts horsepower to weight, one part aero and one part gearing.

OP, up top I think you guys will be close but overall you have the faster car.

That saying was started by someone who didn't have any horsepower. Anyway. I have a buddy thats a big BMW nut. He owned a moderatelly modded M3 and the best he could run at Cecil county was 13.3 @ 103 with a 2.0 sixty. I'd think your Mustang could do slightly better than that with the same sixty foot.
