Default Weight reduction, 100 lbs = .25 seconds?

Just saw a show called car science on speed where they stripped the hell out of a nissan sentra.

I believe they ended up gaining about .25 second for each 100 lbs they removed.

Of course, It probably a bit different when the car runs 16s to begin with and has no torque but it was still pretty interesting.

Weight reduction is where its at.

I could get mine in the low 2700's pretty easy, though I doubt I will spend the time to do it next time I hit the strip.
I always heard the common rule of thumb in 100lbs= .1

I'd say it also depends on the initial weight of the car. Stripping 100lbs out of a v6 challenger isn't going to help as much as stripping 100lbs out of a 3000lb car IMO.

I once tried this and it didnt make too much difference. Besides if you race a 14 sec car, u r going to run bracket anyways. I once raced with my golf clubs and a bunch of other crap in my trunk.

Yep,

Ive always heard that two...

just thought it was crazy that they removed 500 lbs an ended up running like 1.4 seconds faster.

But yea, Im sure it is differant if you have a fast car already vs a 17 second sentra that they tested on and like I said, im sure if you have a car withj some torque, the weight becomes less effective.

Hot rod magazine did a pretty cool article on weight reduction back in the day. Called caddy hack. Later it did Corvette Hack. Pretty interesting, took a saw to a car and seen how fast it would go just from removing parts of the car..

Lol @ caddy hack.

In the case of Caddy Hack, we took a 6,780-pound car that ran 17.22 at 80 mph and turned it into a 2,900-pound car that ran 13.55 and 100 mph

3880 lbs reduced and ran 3.7 seconds faster, that one did turn out to be about .1 for every 100 lbs.
