Stock 09 GT vs EVO?

the evo has the power to weight ratio advantage and has one of those fancy dual clutch auto boxes. he has a seriously advantage from a stop and at lower speeds. he's going to shift hard and fast and it's pretty hard to mess up tapping a paddle. if you guys went beyond a quarter mile I think you'd begin to pull on him.
my friend has an evo 9 with maybe 2000$ in performance mods, and he makes 385/380 hp/tq at the wheels, on the stock turbo etc.. all just simple bolt ons and a tune. pretty disgusting what those cars are capable of. that turbo spools very early too, it's not like a typical laggy single turbo setup.

It depends on how he can drive really.
Their top end pull isnt too impressive with the AWD. The fastest stock evo on dragtimes was 13.2x @ 101.
Fastest S197 was 13.2 @ 104. The mustang will have the better top-end
Don't know why you would say not to embarrass himself. Did you run into a modded one?

I can find all sorts of documentation on Evo in the low 13 second range...for the Mustang GT (2005 - 2009) in the mid to high 13's. Just from a hardware perspective, the Evo is quicker.
Just pointing this out because I don't think we should sell the OP in a false sense of security by saying his car is quicker than the Evo.
BTW, my friend did have an Evo VIII. That thing had wicked top end. Turbo cars normally do...

Since we don't know how well OP drives himself, let's just compare hardware.

I think it'll be closer than expected. Both typically run mid to 13.8 1/4 miles. The EVO is definitely much easier to launch with their dual clutch launch control stuff. Run him and get back to us.

I think I've seen more Mustang owners screw up launches than Evo owners. On the Evo, you can come down heavy on the gas without dumping the clutch and still get a good launch. If you try to do that with a Mustang, you could still lose traction in 1st. If OP has 3.31 gears then traction may not be a big issue unless he dumps the clutch. But if OP has 3.31's then even an Evo that's a bit lazy off the line will make it up in the top end.
I agree that OP should just run and find out for himself.
