99 GT vs 05 WRX

Mustang > STi. Sure the STi was cheaper to mod and you can drive it any weather, but the interior is garbage, the sound system sucks, and it is the noisiest car I have ever driven. Oh, and it rides harder than my Z06 did. If you run over an ant, you feel it.

I have a 2006 STi, stock turbo, but a bunch of mods: APS header/up-pipe/heat shield, Helix downpipe, HKS Carbon Ti catback, APS 65mm CAI, Prodrive boost solenoid, Snow Performance Boost Cooler (70/30 meth and water mix), Walbro fuel pump, Iridium one step colder plugs. My car makes 300 awhp and 400 awtq. The big torque number comes from the equal length header and the meth injection. Weight is around 3,350 lbs. I have never ran the car at a track, but from what others have run with the same power, it should run a mid 12 - maybe better. Obviously your not going to hang with that in your current state.
Your buddy has a WRX which means a 2.0 and not a 2.5. EJ 20 (actually EJ205) is the 2.0l turbo charged boxer engine used in the WRX from 2002 though 2005. The turbo he is upgrading to is an unknown and a big factor in the equation. If the car ends up making 290 awhp and 300 awtq, I say he is going to beat you soundly - all things being equal.
Just a note - launching these AWD cars is not as simple as rev it up and dump the clutch. That will result in a major bog and by the time he gets going you will be well ahead. The proper way is to slip the clutch so you keep the RPM's up around 3k until the clutch is fully out. Takes a little practice, but once you get it down the car shoots out of the hole like it was fired out of a cannon.

Dig race first since it will take into account driver skill as well then maybe play with other variables.

Not always..alot of the bigget turbos can spool faster than smaller ones with ball bearing/billet wheel options. brake boosting/wot box will make a lag free car from a roll or a dig.

Bickety, I see that graph is bhp what type of dyno was it?
I really like Sti's but I'm partial to the Evo's. Actually was looking at a black Sti before I bought this but it was sold the day before I applied for the loan. I had aproval for a yellow Evo and this..I picked this obviously..There are deff days I wish I would have picked the Evo.
Though if you think the Sti's interior is garbage you should see mine.

I highly doubt he is going to have 290/300 to the wheels since the WRX made 227/217 stock flywheel. My friend had one with light mods on it and it would dust my pullied and bolton 92 Super coupe off the line, but I would reel him in. An SC with a few less mods than me put down 230RWP/340RW torque, but consider that my SC weighed 4100lbs.
If he had an STI, I would say you have no chance, but I think it will be close since it's just a WRX.
