cobra vs a zl1?

They started the 5th gen with the 'retro' mindset... that car was doomed to be fat from the start. I honestly think the crash standards thing is an excuse, the Corvette is near 1000lbs lighter and still passes.

Here's my ignorant opinion. I dont't think crash test ratings have a damn thing to do with it. IMO, the issue with GM and Chrysler is that they want to squeeze 3-5 different cars out of one platform. So you end up having grandma's Caddy and your SS being built off the same gigantic platform resulting in a 4k lb tank. Thats why the Vette performs like it should, because they started from the ground up and designed a Vette, not a heavy *** truck sized behemoth that requires 425 hp to run a low 13.

Ford has kept it reasonable, imo. 3600ish lbs for the 5.0, only 50-100 lbs heavier than the New Edge GT, depending on the source. Chevy and Dodge have gone way over the top. My 01 SS weighs about 3450 lbs whereas the new SS is over 4k pounds. They can make a safe car without being so heavy, there's gotta be some other reason they're doing it. My wife's G35 is a 4 door, fully loaded car, curtain airbags, etc....and it weighs a tad less than my car, so its VERY doable. Why not use a lighter platform to start with and then drop a strong engine in? An LS3 in her car would be a very safe car, handle amazing, weigh around 3500 lbs, and wipe the floor with a new SS that weighs over 500lbs more. Idk, like I said, there must be some reason they do what they do, just wondering what it is.
My 96 GT "248a" probably weighed in around 3200-3250 from the factory.

^^ this is true roo my ex's 01 gt weighed 3300 w/ 1/4 tank of gas. And an auto sn95 v6 weighs 3100 with a 1/4 tank to lol

i'm wondering what all the secrets about the next mustang are going to result in. i've already seen a bunch of those renderings where it looks just like the evo concept. not sure if i like it or not looks more like a german supercar than a mustang, like a mix between an audi r8 and an aston martin. I'm curious if it'll be heavier or lighter. and i'm really hoping they start doing n/a 5.0's with direct injection so we can really leave the camaro's in the dust in power and fuel effeciency.

I hear what everyone saying about the platform sharing but the simple fact is is the manufactures are trying to cut cost. Which is what has to happen sometimes to get a project out the door. I prefer dedicated platforms(vettespecifically) but in order to do that you have to pay to play ie the price of a brand new vette of course there is the used car scene wich is a whole new ballgame

The zl1s are only trapping 115-116? ...I just watched a couple other videos. I mean i know 115-116 can be an 11.6-11.8 time with a decent (1.5-1.6) 60ft but still. I expected more.
