Well funny thing at work today I started doing a couple small things to a 3v that got dropped off a few days ago, its mods are a full exhaust(w/ longtubes), c&l cai and intake manifold, 5sp, frpp hot rod cams, and a canned tune. I baselined it on the same dyno as I did the last 3v car and this one made a quite dissapointing 299whp. That's just proof that hot rod cams dont do anything but make noise IMO. When we iron out a few issues and get it tuned better I'll update with better comparison numbers.

I wish 2 V's made those numbers with the above mods mentioned.

It's crazy there's that much of a diffrence between the 2 motors and how much is a 5.0 swap and are they making a kit? And so comp cams is the way to go then? What stage should I do and should I just upgrade my springs and retainers anyway?

I'm sure there's others that make power as well but I'd just stay away from ford racing hot rod cams. A good stage 2 comp would be nice, or you can look into brands like cms, mhs, even mmr makes good cams even tho I think they're just comps with the mmr brand. As far as springs/retainers it just depends what cams you end up with and if they require them or not. When i did the stage 2 comps in the car I mentioned it also got springs/retainers, I did them with the heads still on the car, not a very fun thing to do without the proper spring tool but can be done.
