its the axle ratio, stock is 3.27 and 4.10s will help your acceleration and cut your mpg by about 2 on the highway and might increase it around town if you can have a light foot, you will also need a t-lok or limited slip.

4.10 is a gear ratio for the diferential. Stock, ours come with 3.27's. This is more of an "economy" gear ratio. By changing the gears to 4.10's, you are putting the power to the pavement MORE. For every one time the drive shaft turns, the wheels turn 3.27 times on a stock 99+ V6 stang. When you change the gears, for every one time the driveshaft turns, the wheels turn 4.10 times. Which means you can get up to speed faster.

And you don't need a t-lock or posi...it helps and would be wise but you don't need it.

I'm seriously thinking about 4.10's because i know a kid who might put them in for FREE or barely any cost. He's putting my lowering springs in for me at no cost. The 4.10's are only $150 on mustang tuning..how much RWHP do they usually add?

A better idea...buy a 7.5 rearend...change out the gears when you can, keep driving then when you're ready take one out and put one in. A real posi would be much better than a t-lock...is there a 7.5 posi?
