Default 89 Octane...i tried it...

i tried 89 octane today...noticed that when i turn my car off and turn it back on again after the car has been sittin for a while that the car trembles...sorta like going over really smooth bumps but then after it warms up it ran fine. I noticed also that it was quieter...i left the car running and i had to get into the trunk and i could barely even hear the exhaust running. Is there a reason why it was making that bumpy feeling?

no idea but to add to your gas questions when i use the cheap grade whatever it is i hear a pinging in the engine so most of the time i run on middle or upper grade and i dont have much difference in sound or the bumpy thing

Try running a 20 oz bottle of Techron next fillup..might help

stock tuning should run fine with 87 octane and likewise the same with higher octanes...if its not then definately clean things up like what harve says.

Octane will NOT effect how your car idles. Unless your car NEEDS octane, it will not change how it runs. High compression, advanced timing, forced induction, thats what really needs the octane. Not a stockish V6 mustang.

Well I'm stumped, the only thing I can think of is your not making quite enough spark to fully detonate the gas imidiately after it turns over. But the exhaust thing should be because your engine is running smoother. I hate to tell you this, but it also could of been bad gas, yea it happens.

Hmm...well i just filled up again (i only put in about 2ish gallons yesterday) and man i can tell the difference...the engine sounds so different...not nearly as smooth and quiet. I think i may stick to 89 as long as it doesnt screw things up. And for the jittery feeling it was giving me, it stopped doing that but when it did it only would tremble for a couple seconds then it would drive nicely.
