Default Clutch Problem?

Hello Everyone, Im having a problem with my car itsa 1998 3.8L, 5spd. My car would over-rev the gear i was in and i could smell my clutch. The car wasnt picking up until i revved the engine to about 5k rpm with the clutch fully released. Then i had driven my car around a little bit and i couldnt shift indicating to me that i blew the clutch? so i shut my car off put it in gear and started so i could drive 3 blocks to my house when i got to my house, i pushed my clutch in and shifted so im guessing the clutch worked again. butit wont move any idea what is wrong?

it sounds like the clutch is slipping while you are in gear, and if so then the clutch is probably wore down and needs to be replaced. a few questions though: is it the stock clutch? how many miles on it? check your owners manual you may have a self adjusting clutch or a manual adjustment if you have a manual adjustment try adjusting it and you may get some more life out of it.

however if it smells like burnt brakes and is slipping it most likely needs to be replaced

My clutch did the exact same thing. It would be fine then the next time I drove it I wouldn't doing the same revving thing then the next time it would be fine. But then I heard a screeching noise so I knew it was the throw out bearing.
