Default 97 rear thump noise

We currently own an 06 GT & just bought my daughter, Shelby, a 97 V6. The car has 53,000 original miles on it. We are in the process of replacing the tires& wheels for her. We've noticed a thump in the rear of the car & wondered if anyone has any ideas - the car will make a thump sound like it is coming from the trunk sometimes on take off & slowing but it will also make a thump sometimes at a dead stop. We've checked the spare & it is in correct & tight - haven't put gas in it yet but it only has about 1/4 tank. Any ideas?? Thanks!!

Well Mustangs have a problem with that in the driveshaft, there can be a lot of play sometimes. I personally would just resolve it completly with an aluminum driveshaft for about $200 bux.
She will save a little on fuel costs too and probably wont ask you for gas as much

It also may be something else, I wouldnt just leave it at that.

Thanks - I'll have my husband take a look at the driveshaft when he replaces the tires!
