Default 5.0 swap...

So here's the plan...i have an '01 mustang v6, and i'm doing a swap to a 5.0l ..... main reason...you see 4.6's all the time...and 5.0's in the older body styles...but how many 302's do you see in this body style? how sweet would it be to pop the hood and see a 5.0 in one of the new sn-95 body styles?? i think its great...here's the cost...found a wiring harness, ecu, and motor mounts with 3000 miles on them for 250 bucks, found the 302 with 84k miles for 500, and will be getting the trick flow upper and lower intake, trick flow heads, and trick flow forged pistons and cam, with the summit racing forged crank....

need help with bore, what does everyone think would be best? .30 over..that was my original thought...its gonna be a cheap swap especially since the suspension is already upgraded and the fact that the k-member is the same for the 232 as the 302....and the fact that i work at summit racing will help out! lol.

need your thoughts/suggestions...thanks!

k member is not the same you need one from a 94-95

the reason you dont see em swaped is because its a waste of money to do so

too much money to do the swap only to have a 5.0 in there that will dyno only slightly more than the 3.8

also you need to apply for emissions exemptions or allowances in order to use the older 5.0 in the newer car. which basically means it's not worth it.

you need to notify you insurance company that you upgraded your car to a V8 GT configuration and then you will pay V8 premiums or if you don't then it's insurance fraud and they will not cover you in an accident if they find out there is a V8 under the hood and not the V6

why switch to a 5.0 anyways. it really doesn't have much of an advantage over the 3.8 except for cost to build. it isn't as strong as the 3.8 that's for sure

I dont know so Im asking......but, how could putting a 5.0 in a 99 body put down just slightly more then a 3.8 assuming proper modifications (switching out rear to take the V8 powerfor example)?

as time went on the engines got more efficient, 5.0's were stopped in 94 or 95 i think... over 10 years.

the sn95 gt's only put out 220hp, 3.8L puts out 193hp, that should help a bit

I thought 5.0 had 270 lbs of torque too,and the v6only has 220 lbs of torque ,yeah cobra is right its a waste only 40 lbs of torque more and only like 30 hp more. which you can get with the v6 with some boltons for less money then a complete swap.. just buy a old fox for less if you want a 5.0. id personally would put a dual over head cam 4.6 (if you can find one) in instead of the 5.0,or a single over head cam engine 4.6 too, might as well since your going too swap too a v8 anyway.

Obviously you idiots didnt read what hes putting on the motor. With tfs setup he'll EASILY be putting down 300+ hp. And 3.8 being reliable, um BS....wasnt it the 3.8 that had millions of cars with blown headgaskets....yeah thought so... The 3.8 is a great big POS. Slow reving junk.

Regarkcurb, when you get your TFS setup dont get the twisted wedge heads. Get the TFS high ports, MUCH better head, flows A LOT more than TW's. And if you really wanna make it different put a carb on it with a victor jr. or super victor. That thing will scream, ditch the crappy 3.8 for a real motor
