High pitch noise during hvy acceleration 3.8
Does anyone know if it is normal to hear a fine high pitch sqeal when accelerating hard? I checked everywhere for vacume leaks. The noise seems to be coming from the ripple top intake plenum. I have a ck engine light on and the anylizer at Auto Zone says air/fuel mix problem? Can injectors make this noise? It seems to alternate or sound plural at time going down the road in 2nd. It's a 95, I installed high flow cats, dual exhaust, CAI and underdrive pulley recently. My next deal will be rear end replacement; already has noise... 4:10 gears? any suggestions?

I had the same type of noise on my 3.8 it was like a high pitched hum....pi$$ed me off, the check light was on and I took it to my machanic and it was a bad oxygen sensor.....that may be the problem...

That noise is from your CAI, it's normal. it's because you're induction tube is smooth now. if it sounds like a whistle then, that's your problem, which is not really a problem to begin with. When you get more mods, it'll actually quiet down some.

Yup, my CAI whitles at certain acceleration points as well. But I'm getting from your post that you have had the CAI for a sometime and your high pitched noise is a new thing. Is this correct?

No.... the CAI is farely new. I never thought this.... maybe the air flow thru the TB & into the the plenum is it. It does now as I think of it... sound like air blasting thru a 2" aluminum pipes!
I just thought the uneven sound(in & out) at 3/4 steady throttle was odd. Possible the ECM adjusting or compensating? I don't know.
All I know is that being use to V8's, this car is geared very high. No inclines on the highway in 5th gear. Around town, 3rd seems to be the max. Any suggestions on doing the rear end without breaking the bank?

No cheap way around doing your rear end unless you have a friend in the Tranny biz. The labor is what kills you. Here's a link for the rear end gears and possi.
