wheel widening and tire question!
ok so ive been thinkin about it and i dont want new wheels i like my stockers i just want them wider has anyone ever had any experience with wheel widening? and anyone have a suggestion of a place to have it done
also does anyone know who makes a 315/45R16i know one is made but cant seem to find who makes it
and if not a 315 manybe a 295 or 305 for a 16 inch rim?
i lik ethe tires i have now but the problem is 245/50/r16 is the widest they make lthough it is a 9in wide tire so it isnt so bad

Without about 300 plus hp, anything more than about a 275 will slow you down performance wise. Even then, if you are running a solid rear axle which limits the amount of treat you are putting down in the rear around corners anyway, you aren't going to be needing any more width than that.
Wide tires for a 16" rim will most likely be drag orientated R compound rubber (MT streets, Nitto 555 or a BFG drag radial)...which means softer rubber, faster wear out time and poor street characteristics. Just a heads up.

245 or 255 50 16's are about as wide as you can go on the stock V6 16" rim which is a 16X7 i believe. i ran 245's before with my old stock "waffle" GT rims that came on my V6 sport appearance PKG. they look nice and handle really good

this isnt gonna be a right now thing but eventually i am goin to get them widened just looking for an idea on prices and the such like i said i just got new tires and as far as tread wear characteristics im running a competition series tire with a 260 rating (http://www.federaltire.com/en/images...c/spec595.html) so i understand soft wear as nitto's 555 have a 300 rating

I have 255's on my v6. I know for a fact that they are pretty crammed in there and I still experience minor scrubbing, plus as it has already been said it robs horsepower, even my brothers cobra is only running 275s.

you can easily fit 315 in the rear no problem now im not sure about fronts but no problems in the rear but why does EVERYTHING have to be about horsepower maybe i like the look of a 295 or 305 ou back meh is just me i guess

i guess power to you if thats really what you want to do. but for the price you will probably pay to have the wheels widened, you can just fork over some extra cash and buy some aftermarket wheels.. most people will agree that it will look better than stock wheels
