8.8 questions
So... after a racing incident today, I've decided that my open differential is crap... I want to do an 8.8" and am wondering a few things... 28 or 31 spline axles? and how hard is swapping my 7.5" out for an 8.8?
Thanks for any help...

8.8 is a direct swap if it's from your same body style. On a new edge, the SN95 8.8 losses a 1/2" (correct?) and SN95 with new edge 8.8 gains 1/2".
As far as axles... I need to research more on that one.

Ok, I have no idea about axles...I raced a '94 GT 3 lightpoles, and he won, but I spun ONE TIRE some ways, then shifted a lil to early...and I think that if I wasn't spinning, I MIGHT have had him...

if you can find an 8.8 for $200 or under then it's worth it. other than that the detroit truetrac in a 7.5 is stronger than a stock 8.8.
all 94-04 v6/GT stangs have 28 spline axles regardless of 7.5 or 8.8 they are exactly the same axle according to year. 94-98 are the same length and 99-04 are the same length axle. 94-98 axles are shorter than 99-04

anyways i wouldn't pay 10 cents for an 8.8 track lok used from 1993.
this is what you need. this place is $100 less than anyother place on the truetrac

you would also need an install kit for about $80 which containes all the shims and bearings and seals/gaskets needed for the install. install price by a tranny shop is generally around $250.
sorry you not gonna get away with doing the rear for under $500 to get a limited slip differential

truetrac in the 7.5 is good for a 450rwhp car. add in a girdle and bearing cap stud kit and hardened 28 spline axles for extra strength and the 7.5 will handle 99% of v6er's out there.
i will be at about 450rwhp by spring and i have no worries whatsoever except my stock axles
