MustangForums.com - Mach 1 brake install

Well I finally got the brake kit installed. The front's - which most people only do the fronts and not the backs were easy. After the car was jacked up and the tires were off it only took about an hour to install everything... very straight forward. I changed out the stock pads on the fronts with Hawk HPS pads.

I also did the rears. This was not as hard as everyone makes it out to be, just time consuming. I reused the stock calipers and got the rear rotor/bracket kit from AM and used Mach 1/Cobra/Bullitt HPS rear pads. I replaced the dust boots on the sliding pins cuz I broke one. Taking the axle out was easy, so don't fret about that if you decide to do the rears. Just try not to jolt loose the pinion gears (which I did, but they went right back in place - just scared the **** out of me for a sec). I used RTV sealant for the differential cover. Compressing the rear calipers was easy too if you have the tool. HOWEVER, this is where it kinda went wrong. The bracket that goes over the rotor and holds the caliper in place was too close to the outside of the rotor and was rubbing. SO, I had to take it off, put it on a vice and use a Dremel tool and file to grind the damn things for about 1 hour. After that, it's all good. Bleed the system which takes like 15 -20 min with someone else helping, and your set.

I don't understand why people make a big deal out of changing the rear pads. If you have everything, it can be done easily within 1 hour. It just isn't as easy as the front... which is a joke.

The car stops much better, the pedal is much firmer, and it's stupidly quiet compared to my old stock brakes (which were shot to hell anyways). I haven't been able to brake hard yet because I'm scared I'll screw up the rotors and pads because they aren't broken in yet, so I'll wait about 300 miles and then have some fun. Sorry no pics yet... guess I need to GTFO :D Hope this lil review helped a bit for anyone considering the upgrade.
