Cam Sensor
I've been told by a mechanic (who hardly speaks English) that my problem is being caused by, I'm guessing, a broken cam sensor. However, I spoke to a friend today, who does speak English, and he is unsure if our cars have cam sensors. And even if they do, it wouldn't be causing the problem I'm having. My problem is when I start my car up in the morning, it sounds like birds are chirping and squealing underneath my hood. That's the only time it does it. What the hell is goin on under there? Would a broken cam sensor cause a squealing noise?

Yea we have them I had to replace mine but I wouldn't think that would be your problem maybe its a belt or pully issue
Or you have a birds best under your hood |
It's probably your belt.

So how much would a new pulley cost? If this is the problem, how come it only occurs when I start my car up for the first time in the day?

take your car to a autozone or discount auto and check, that would be the cheapest place to find those parts.

Sounds good... If it ever stops raining here I could do a lot more things but this weather sucks!
|
The DIS wouldnt cause that kind of sound.
Like already said, check the pulleys or tensioners. |
Well while that noise is still there, now I hear a metallic-scraping noise while I drive. Sounds like rubbing or something, and when I come to a stop at, let's say, a red light, it sounds like the 6 train pulling into Grand Central (sorry for those who don't live in NYC, but if you did, you'd know what I mean). I haven't changed my brakes since I got the car a little over two years ago, and I've put about 14K on the car. Could I need new brakes?

I'd say you need new brake pads.
