Default Friction Modifier

Just double checking if I need to buy friction modifier for when I install my Auburn LSD. I know you need it for installing a T Lok, but unsure for an Auburn. Anyone know?

Yup, get the Ford stuff. Friction modifier actually reduces the amount of friction in the diff, otherwise it would be a locker that would wear out almost instantly. It treats the clutches and steels to prevent them from binding too much.

Are friction modifier and gear lube separate and you mix them together? I'm in the same boat, but with a T-Lok. How much of each, if it is separate.

put the friction modifier in first and then top off with gear lube. I think it's 2.5 quarts if it's a dry housing.

The 8.8 t-lok uses the friction modifier as well. So yes, the same would apply with the Auburn.

Any lsd needs it, regardless of axle size or anything like that.
