This link shows you how to lower the car but gives a pretty decent write up on how to get the brakes off.

I replaced the rotors and pads not too long ago on my wife's 99 convertible and got the special tool as a loaner from Auto Zone. The tool was a big help, especially since the rear brakes had never been replaced and things were pretty well stuck after 11 years!
Auto Zone charged a deposit (which was probably pretty close to the cost of the tool!) but I got that back as soon as I returned it.
I also put drilled and slotted rotors and ceramic pads on. It stops great and I have a lot less brake dust to clean off the wheels!

I couldn't get the pistons all the way flat, theres like a mm of piston sticking out, of the passenger side brake, i hooked it all up; would this be a problem? should I go back and try to compress it more? I pretty much tightened it all the way with the C clamp as much as I could.

if it fits over the new pads your good. that's all you need is just to compress the piston far enough to fit over the new pads

thx neo, gotcha. kk so i'm finished with both fronts. I'm stepping on the pedal, and i keep pushing it and it doesn't seem to stiffen up. I only did the front brake pads. Am i supposed to keep going until it eventually stiffens up? because i must've stepped on it for a good 5 minutes lol. Maybe i did something wrong? hmm

i'll get started on the rear brakes tomorrow morning. Took me about an hour and a half for each front brake(for my first time), i kept taking breaks and eating lol.

Thanks for walking it through with me ya'lll

if the pedal isnt stiffening up you should jack both sides up and check your brake lines for leaks... did you replace your cap on your fluid? if the lines arent leaking and the pedal isnt stiffening check your calipers for any fluid leaks... if you see any then a seal in your caliper has gone bad and the caliper needs to be replaced
