Lightbulb Thermostat Questions

ok so I've read that the stock thermostat is a 195 degree unit, and I've also noticed that my car runs stronger when it's cooler. so my questions are:

1 will it cause damage to install a 160 unit
2 will that affect AFR
3 will it consequently affect MPGs
4 or would it just lower operating temps

I've also read that at lower operating temps cause the car to run leaner which seems to be helpful to my car (no pings, just better power)

also if i do install a lower temp thermostat what style rad fan thermostat do i need a push in or screw in and what temp should i set it at.

180 is about as cold as you want to run. Beyond that (160) you affect your efficiency as you will always be running rich. You will also tend to foul your plugs and lose lose power from excess fuel.

ok so i did some more reading and found that the 160 is to low so the 180 is the one to go with. now would a push in thermostat for the rad fan work cause that ones cheaper lol.

Your engine is machined according to the temps it will be running, and yes, a few degrees can make a difference. It won't be imediate, more long term, but the engine won't last as long. You have to consider all the expansion that takes place when an engine warms up to know that cylinder walls aren't perfect circles when they're cold.
