Default ok i have no idea what the noise is

my buddies 2001 stang is making a high pitched noise coming from motor. We just changed the cam syn. and it is still there. We removed the belt to see if the noise was coming from there.

The noise is coming from the motor with out the belt on. So what could it be?

If the noise is still there with the serpentine belt removed...it's cam gear (synchro?) Probably needs to wear in a bit.

so, you changed the cam sensor, or the sensor base(syncronizer)?

I changed the thing that fits into the top of the timing chain cover.

I changed the top plug part and the gear drive part that goes into the timing case so yea i guess you call it syncronizer

is the noise a chirp or a whistle? i have heard vacuum leaks that sound like a high pitched whistle that is hard to pinpoint.

I know it is not a vac leak. It sounds like a bad bearring or somethin but could it be something inside the timechain cover going bad?

OK it only makes noise from 800 to a lil above 2200 rpms then it goes away. That is with out the serpentine belt and new cam syncronizer installed. it is not missing or anything just a real bad metal on metal noise.Sounds like it is coming from the front of motor.
