Default Dual Exhaust Adapter Kit

In the following tech article on converting to a V6 exhaust:

http://www.americanmuscle.com/conver...l-exhaust.html

it says that a dual exhaust adapter kit ( http://www.americanmuscle.com/v6duexadkit1.html ) is not a true dual exhaust. But as I understand it the adapter kit attaches to the existing two pipes immediately after the cats and before the Y section. So it seems to me that the two pipes are maintained from the headers/manifolds all the way to the exhaust tailpipes. How is this not a true dual exhaust?

By the way, I am asking because I want a more affordable option than replacing the whole midpipe and catback which looks to be at least $800 dollars which is somewhat out of my budget at this time.

By the way I have a 2000 V6 manual.

I think that guide is wrong and you are correct. If you get that adapter and the stock cat back from a GT then you should be able to have a very affordable dual exhaust.

Its not true duals because the adaptor plate has an h pipe built in. That allows you to use any catback made for a GT or the stock GT catback which can be had cheap, with a pair of thrush welded series mufflers for $70 so you'll have a very good sounding exhaust very cheap.

yea i suppose that wouldnt be a bad setup, idk why more ppl dont have it. i would say though if ur looking for a few more hp wait and get the full set up. that one shouldnt be to bad on sound though. i just spend some money to redu mind. long tubes ($280) + catted h pipe (350) and i aleady have a gt take off cat back with summit mufflers in it.

another on the cheap option is buy 2 mufflers and take it to any reputable exhaust shop and have them cut off after the cat and build the system for you. most shops will do it for 150-300 depending on where you live.

I am somewhat new to this but isn't a true dual exhaust simply having two pipes all the way back and maybe with an X or H configuration? Shouldn't the adapter make the H configuration very similar to a GT set up which is a true dual exhaust? Thanks for the input.

No, the h or x pipes are crossover pipes. True duals is one exhaust pipe coming straight off each cat (one per side) that never connect.

I would like to have an X pipe configuration V6 adapter because of the greater performance, but the only adapter I can find is the H configuration( http://www.americanmuscle.com/v6duexadkit1.html ). Does anyone know where to get an X pipe adapter for the 2000 V6?
