Engine trouble code is P1740. Apparently this has something to do with the solenoid. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the solenoid only used for starting the car? If that's the case, then this probably wouldn't have anything to do with my revving issue :/

According to Ryan's complete OBD II list, P1740 is not a possibility. Maybe it was P0174, which indicates that you are lean on bank 2. This could be caused by a vacuum leak, which would cause exactly what you are describing.

Check all vacuum hoses such as your brake booster, PCV valve, fuel pressure regulator, ect.

Ok, get that checked. It sounds to me that you have misfire in your cylinders. Could be one, could be all. Biggest symptoms are fluctuating RPMs, sluggish control, and reduced gas mileage. Could be from a new air intake, bad spark plugs, bad coils, a number of things. But if left alone, could do some serious damage. Wouldn't hurt to get this checked out.

I don't think that it's a misfire or it would have had a distinctive code, or multiple codes.

That sounds better. The autozone workers did seem pretty inept, so them messing up the code wouldn't surprise me.

I had the code a while back when I installed my Windstar upper. Look for any hose that has come off. The main ones I can think of at the moment:

PCV Valve
Brake booster (your brakes would suck if this were the case)
PCV on the passenger side valve cover (goes to your intake)
all EGR lines
Green and red hoses (On top of EGR and to fuel pressure regulator)
Smog pump (rear passenger side of engine bay, could be rotted out and falling apart)
Near the smog pump line, there should be a 1/4'' T with a hose running behind your upper intake, I don't remember where it connects on the stock upper but check it out as well.

If none of those are bad, you may have a bad seal somewhere after the MAF. May be a bad upper intake gasket or a bad lower intake gasket. If none of those are you problem, it is likely an O2 sensor, but given that it will rev up by itself, I don't think that's it. PM me if you need more help

So I've been doing my homework, and if the code was indeed P0174, couldn't this also imply a "lean misfire"? P0174 means that the sensor in bank 2 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust). Likewise, a lean misfire occurs when there is not enough fuel in the mixture to burn. Therefore, couldn't both of you be saying the same thing? Again, I'm very new to this stuff, so please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm just trying to turn my misfortune into a learning experience

It shouldn't cause a misfire, but either way that is caused by a vacuum leak, not enough fuel, or o2 sensors. Read my post above

The only reason I said to check the filter is because my girlfriends filter caved in from the junk. That then let the strings through. It looked like she drove through a tiny sweater store. But mainly check the tube and valve, that's where you DEFINITELY don't want anything.

Edit: Just realize there was a second page...so I'm way off topic, oh well, I tried.
