Default Trying to trace battery drain....Help!!

Trying to nail down why my son's 2000 V6's battery is draining. I've got 12+ volts between cable and battery post. Have pulled every fuse and relay in the under hood box and nothing changes the draw. Installed a Pioneer cd player to replace a worn unit a year ago. Pulled the new one out....still drawing 12+. There is a door lock actuator that will lock but not unlock the passenger door. Pulled door lock fuse in footwell....still 12+.

Getting 14+ DC at battery with engine running. Getting 26 volts AC at battery with engine running....bad diode? I've got power cable and big plug pulled at alternator...can't get the single little wire unplugged...still getting the 12+ volts between cable and post. Do I need to get that one wire off and retest?

What next?!?!?!?! Getting frustrated. Trying to avoid taking her to mechanic as I feel I'm missing something here. Could battery have internal short causing this? If I touch one wire from mulitmeter to top of battery (not post) on one side and the other on the top on the other side I get about 4 volts..??? Not sure what that means!

All suggestions MUCH appreciated!!!

Mark

OK, went out again and touched negative post and top of battery...got about 7+ volts. Cleaned top of battery with some baking soda and wiped her dry. Tried again. 0 volts. This has to be good. Tried the post to cable and got about 7 volts...down from the 12+ before. Not sure if this brings me down to normal levels are not but I doubt it. Tested battery voltage at 12.35 before stopping for the night. Will see where it is in the morning.

I also pulled the new cd deck to see if it felt warm but it was not. Didn't think that had anything to do with it but just had to check to ease my mind on that one.

Search continues.....

well if your getting AC to you battery your bridge rectifier is either bad or something is grounding that shouldn't be..

is it going dead durring the night? or is it going dead while the car is running?

stocksixer88,

THANKS for the reply! Battery is draining as it sits. Pulled all wiring off the alternator and still getting 12volt drain across terminal and cable. Maddening as heck! May have two issues going on here with the AC coming back to battery but with alternator completely eliminated from the car, I guess I can rull out that it is not what is draining the battery. What next?
