Default question

ok. So i posted about 2 weeks ago about my fuel pump cutting off when the car gets hot, and one of my friends dads said check out the Coolant Temperature Sensor. I was on american muscle looking around and searched for the sensor and it said A faulty or malfunctioning temperature sensor can send false signals to your Mustangs computer resulting in a over heated engine.
1.
Do you think that would kill the fuel pump ?.
2.
How many Coolant temp sensors are on the 96 v6? I know of the one right infront of where the thermostat goes.

Coolant temp sensor sits somwhere on the lower intake. I know where it is on my 5.0, but not quite sure on the V6. Usually when that sensor fails the engine overheats, it has nothing to do with the fuel pump. The fuel pump turning off should be caused by something else, but then again, anything is possible.

Coolant temp sensor is in the lower intake near the fuel pressure regulator.

I know when my sensor went bad it just ran like **** until the o2 kicked in.
Youll be looking at horrible throttle response, stalling, running rich
which you can defintly smell out the tailpipe. I dont know mustangs
well but if that is a safety feature when the engine goes hot, the pump cuts
off, then the sensor is a good possibility.

I left my car for a few days and tried to start it but the fuel pump is still dead. i think im just going to get another v6 donor car and swap engines, transmissions, and buy all new sensors filters plugs etc.

OK. Your 96 has 2 sensors. 1 is the coolent temp sensor which sits right next to/above the termostat and it has a 2 wire (green, black) pigtail that runs under the upper intake. The 2nd sensor is a "water temp sensor" according to Ford has a single wire running to it and is right off the coolent "vent" tube. The coolent temp is $75 from Ford, the "water" temp is $25 from Ford. My "water" sensor went bad and was giving me all sorts of bad temp readings. My tempt reading were going from cold, to overheating hot in about 5 min of turning the car on.

Just some info about the temp sensors.

Well today my car started up and i pulled the connection out of the sensor and it did not die, stall, anything. Went to oriellys and got a new sensor for 20 with limited lifetime warranty. I came home changed the sensor, started it up and it never died. So it was the Coolant Temperature Sensor.

no you got the wrong idea. With the sensor connected my car stalled our within 5 minutes of being ran. 10 minutes later it died and wouldnt start back up until it cooled down. So yesterday i disconnected the coolant temperature sensor and it did not stall, the fan was on constantly but it didnt stall it didnt die. So we went and bought the new one, hooked it up, and it didnt stall, die out, anything.
