Default REALLY BAD gas smell! need help

ok so i have a 96 v6 5spd mustang with about 95k miles. About 6 months ago i first noticed a gas smell in the car, it would only come around every now and then but lately it smells A LOT every single time i drive the car. It smells worse when the windows are down, at low speeds, and when you floor it. I took it on a trip last week and on the highway with the windows up i couldnt smell anything. I took the car to a local mechanic first, who said he could not find gas leaking from anywhere in the car. He suggested taking it to a ford dealor, which i did. the mechanic at the dealorship said some sensors were clogged, and replaced them. id tell you exactly what they replaced but i dont have the info they gave me in front of me right now. so its been a week since i got it back from the dealorship and its still REALLY bad. the car does not appear to leak gas anywhere and i havent seen a noticable drop in mpgs. any ideas on what the problem could be?

id take it back to the stealership and tell them they didnt fix the problem and tell them to actually fix it or give you your money back.

Take a look at the fuel filler necks rubber grommet in the pass side rear wheel well.

It you can see a stain like a wet look or can smell it then thats your problems.

His Mustang does have an evap canister, it is under the passenger side front fender, you must remove the inner fender to gain access.

The rubber hoses to the evap canister go bad easily as well as the sensors.
You can find them cheap on ebay.

Btw, the rubber grommet is at the location where the filler neck enters the fuel tank.

Its a cheap and easy fix, average price is $20 or less.

The rubber grommet for the fuel tank/filler neck you can find on ebay for 25 and at the ford dealership they are 35. I just changed mine.

ok so i found the sheet from the dealor that originally "fixed" it.

Found hose from intake to canister vent cracked also found sensor clogged up. replaced both flow sensors and blew out lines. replaced canister vent line. customer needs to drive a week and see if smell goes away.

Well the smell hasnt gone away. Im also 90% sure its not the fill tube grommet since i cant see any gas leaking from it. Taking it back to the dealer on tuesday, starting to worry that this is a major problem

replaced the grommet. still reeks of gas. funny thing is that it seems to be coming from the trunk? i sniffed around the tank and it smells fine, then i open the trunk and theres a very strong gas smell. im 99.99% sure that there hasnt been gas spilled in there, and it does seem to get worse with driving, so wtf?

Sounds like the tank needs dropped and inspected. Sorry if that was done..not read entire thread. Sounds like a leak in the top of the tank...so you smell it but it's not leaking fluid.

And this is going to sound stupid..but have you pulled up your trunk liner to see if someone stored a gas can in the spare tire well?
