Modding you car is a very fun pasttime, and you learn a lot about your car in a short amount of time. I would say go for it, what have you got to lose?
haha my friend has a TT 3000gt vr6 too haha. not any competition though since he wont even go fast in the car. i think its a 94 or something and he doesnt want to break it. come to think of it, he has never given me a ride in it......

V8 Mustang is a broad term. The '79 5.0L V8 made a whopping 140 flywheel hp. Go ahead 1 year to 1980, and the V8 offered was a 4.2L that cranked out a mind numbing 117 flywheel hp. 81 lost 2 hp from that. 82 the 5.0L jumped back to 157. 86 the new fuel injected 5.0L made 5 hp less than the turbo 4 banger offered in that year..... see where I'm going with this?

on another note the new accord is 5 years old and has almost 50k miles on it so I'm swapping out the tranny fluid for amsoil synchromesh, how often do you guys change it? I've heard swapping the manual trans fluid can make it smoother in general and especially on cold start shifts.

Not a vert man myself, but Mysticchrome is cool. I'm biased to blue since it's my favorite color(I wouldn't mind a refire Cobra either ).

haha funny you should bring that up, some kid i know was arguing with me about how hondas are better than mustangs and proceeded to show me a vid of some turbo'd civic vs some 80s mustang, and i was like, get real, if that thing is stock than i could beat it in my sixxer haha. i won the battle in the long run

the grand am GT is reasonably quick. my buddy had one when we were 16 and i had a 00 v6 mustang with a few boltons. his car was bone stock and kept up fairly close to my car until i was hitting third then he would fall off. in my 6 i was able to beat stock NPI gt's easily.

whatever website i pulled this off of that tested 100% factory stock cars:
the grand am GT ran a 15.9 quarter mile. a 97 NPI gt ran a 15.1.

i dont understand your friend saying he had his car tuned but has no mods? thats stupid and sounds like hes just blowing smoke, no one gets a tune without mods so either hes lying about a few mods, or hes lying about the tune. reguardless, especially with a tune, i would say it is within reason that he can beat a 100% bone stock NPI gt that has a bad driver. and like roush said, some of the older v8 mustangs are even considerably slower than the NPI gt even.

so i am not immiedately dismissing him saying he has beat a v8 mustang. especially in more of an 1/8th mile or short street race because i know those cars do fall off a little bit once they run out of second gear. its more than possible that he has beat one, or atleast the driver. i beat my friends 500whp 03 cobra in the 8th mile in my GT with boltons, doesnt mean my car is faster he just couldnt hook worth a crap and he was a bad driver.

take him to the track if he wants to talk. and just to give you some comparison numbers as well:

1999 Ford Mustang Convertible V6 8.6 16.5 - granted this IS a convertible so its going to be slower than a coupe.
2005 Ford Mustang V-6 6.9 15.3

the 05 v6 putting out 250 hp ran a 15.3. thats only .6 seconds slower in the quarter mile than the grand am with 60 more hp (and a couple hundred pounds of weight consider that) than a stock 99-04 v6.

not trying to smack talk you by any means, just saying i dont know your mods and if you dont have some stuff done it may be a MUCH closer race than you give him credit for.

Where are you getting numbers like this? The 2005-2010 v6 had 210 horsepower which was 20 or 17 more than a new edge v6 depending on the year.

im not sure bout all the numbers but i think hes been lying bout mods too cuz he said it was maybe a 90-98 v8 and apparently it was loud, idk for sure but ive seen cars exactly like his that couldnt lick the dust off my bumper, anyway one thing i do know is that i absolutely hate grand ams cuz most people round here think they're the best car in the world for some reason haha
