Is a Y pipe wirth it?
I saw on AM that theres a v6 dual exhaust conversion kit. I know theres X, H, and Y pipes, I was just wondering if the Y is even worth it? I saw that theres no extra welding or anything involved. Thats why Im interested.. But Im not sure if it is worth it.. Any thoughts on them? And the differences?

Are you talking the one that splits after the Y or the one where you cut the Y off and slip the H on?
If its just the one that splits after the Y I wouldnt bother with it as performance gains are minimal at best. If you are just looking for the looks of dual exhaust then sure, its a cheap and easy way of doing it. |
+1 they're there for looks/minimal gain.

It is extreamly pointless to go from a duel exhaust into a y pipe and then back out to duel exhaust, save some money and just go with the full exhaust later.

alright, Im just running the stock single pipe right now, about what price range would I be looking at for a full X pipe setup?

Well being that you are in California the only thing that you can do is buy the H pipe adapter where you cut your Y off and replace it with the H.
Otherwise you will fail the inspection, you may not fail smog if you retain aftermarket cats but you still will fail inspection. LMP and others have it. Here is a link. http://www.lmperformance.com/6178/86.html http://www.lmperformance.com/images/...pg/p822921.jpg |
so basically I can have that or a Y in CA then.

You'll be fine with the Y pipe if you do that. My car came that way from Roush using Magnaflow mufflers. Switched to Spin Techs and made a bit more tq than the Mags... about 9 more than the stock single pipe.

about how much gain would I get from just the Y? and Im not following the Y converted to H... if I cut off the Y its still 3 pipes not 4 correct? sorry for ignorance, Im just a noob at doing this stuff.

The H-pipe conversion IS 50 state legal and says so in the info section of the link I posted.
Look at this pic that I am posting, it is a pic of a V6 exhaust on the top and 4.6 V8 on the bottom. On the V6 exhaust simply cut a few inches behind the last two cats, remove that Y section and bolt on the H-pipe section or have a muffler shop weld it in. You will have TRUE dual exhaust with no bottleneck and it will look like the V8 exhaust at the bottom of the pic. http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s...ipes_V6_V8.jpg |
