Cutting Springs - No new Shocks/Struts
#23
Looks good luke!
My car is DD dont really have the time to pull springs, cut, and put back in all in one day......if i came across some spring from a coupe will they work??? (cut one day and install later on) i remember looking for springs and they were always separated Vert/coupe and my vert being "heavier" and all i didnt know if the coupe springs would be ok?

Yeah coupe springs will probably give you a slightly lower drop. Its easy to take them out cut them and put them back in in one day though. Follow ryans diy write-up, took me and my father just shy of 4 hours my first time doing it going really slow with hand tools. Can definitely be done in a day.

After cutting your springs, how is the ride? Any problems so far or what? I'm looking into doing this come summer time and have been debating to do actual lowering springs or just cut them. I'd rather not have to spend $500 to lower the car, but I can't decide.

Ride is 100% fine, just don't cut too much because you'll screw up the caster settings or over load the shocks/struts. 1.5" is about the max you should cut off, any more and you need adjustable caster cambers. Now I do use the term "fine" loosely because you are removing spring absorbsion from the car, so it does ride a little rougher as a result.

Had to revive this thread for the OP and other posters.
- I was looking at cutting 3/4 a coil off my front's too. But I noticed in an SVTPerformance guide that:
Cutting 1/2 a coil made a .75-1" drop
and
Cutting 1 coil made a 1.75-2" drop
^ This was a guide for the termi cobra's (which stock, their springs are already lower than normal New Edges)
So I'm wondering is 3/4 a coil going to put me past the "1.5 in" mark? Because I would like to keep it within range of the stock Caster plates, and maybe put in Foxbody struts if the stock isn't sufficient.
ALSO: (this is for my completely stock 2001 GT, not for my 00 V6.)
